Browse All TopicsHello all,
I've got a networking problem that is going to be the death of me! I have two identical xp machines. When I try to access shares on one of them, I get in just fine. When I try to access shares on the other, no luck. It says that the user isn't set up for network access (I forget the exact message). I checked the gp and allowed network access to that user (the renamed admin account). I also ensured that that user wasn't disallowed from network access. The two computers can ping each other, but I cannot log on to one of them remotely.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
TNC

Yohan,
Thanks for the response. I've done all of those things.
Here is the exact error message:
>System error 1385 has occurred.
>
>Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
Sean,
It is XP pro and the drives are formatted with ntfs. Everything in ipconfig is exactly the same except for the host name and the ip address but everything is to suit there. I don't want to post the specifics, sorry.

Greetings tncbbthositg,
Have you made sure to disable the XP firewall on both machines, AND any other firewalls you may have installed? If so, try this: Go to Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy
Check under Local Policies -> "User rights assignment" to see who has permissions to "Access this computer from the network" Try adding "Everyone". Can you post the exact error message? Was it simply "Access denied" or something else? Also, open the connection properties on the computer you can't access and make sure "File and Print Sharing For Microsoft Networks" is listed and has a small check to the left of it.
