Printer sharing between W2K and Mac OS 10.2

I would prefer to share an Epson 1280 (connected to the Mac) with a W2K machine, but the reverse would also be acceptable.  And yes, I have seen some workarounds on the net which claim to make this possible.  However, there must be an easy way to do this.......

Samba config file modification, gimp-print drivers, ghostscript......come on, isn't there a simple, straight-forward method?  The machines see each other on the network, so that's working fine.  Each machine has drivers installed and can print to the printer individually.  Why does this process have to be so complicated?  Is there a simple method for sharing this bloody printer?  This is modern technology for crying out loud.....let's hook them up and print, is that asking too much?  Any suggestions would be most appreciated.  Thanks.

I put one of these on my network a while back,  it was realatively inexpensive and it works with pretty much any OS,

There are lots around some are expensive,  often cheaper to get a router/hub with print server built in.  

The reason I got it was I was tired of the printer being unavailable because somebody shut the PC off so the print sharing was a pain vs a hardware solution that 'just works' with no crap involved.

I am afraid I do not know the specs of your epson, but we have shared a colourjet using a USB hub and two usb cables, one to a mac os x 10.3 and one to a machine running XP pro. The other option is to use file and print sharing from your windows machine and Mac os 10.3 will share the printer over the network, conversely you could enable file and print sharing on the apple mac, if you have the firewall enabled on mac os x you will need to enable file and print through this or as kode99 says a cheap hardware based print server will enable you to do this via tcp/ip.

rbev01, yes, print sharing over the network is normally quite easy.  Here are the issues: my client has one PC running W2K, an old mac running OS 8.6 and a G3 tower running OS 10.2.8.  OS 10.3 has built-in support for that kind of network print sharing, then there's also the issue of the 8.6 machine which doesn't have USB and is much tougher to network.  kode99 has the right idea and such a USB print server will allow all the machines to print without having to be networked and without needing to see each other.
