Ipconfig /release /renew batch file for XP Pro

I need a pc on our network to release and renew it's ip at start up. I was told to write a batch file for it. I'm sure it's an easy answer for the experts out there, but not for me. How do I do it?

open a notepad file and type
ipconfig /release_all
ipconfig /renew_all
save it as
renew.bat

Put this into notepad and save it.  Rename the file as x.bat - where x is the name you want to call it.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Then, put a shortcut to that file in your startup folder.

Question - why do you need to do this?

Hi kathyakh,

Create a new ascii text file.
Rename the .txt file to .bat
Right click on the .nat file and select edit.

In the editor enter the following lines.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Save the changes.
Create a shortcut to the batch file in your startup folder.

Add a pause to the end the batch file for initial testing purposes so you can see it works if you like.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
pause

Then you will have to press any key to close the window. I would do this until you can confirm it runs at startup. Then like stevenlewis said just use

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Also, with my wireless laptop getting confused sometimes hopping in-between hot-spots during the month, I use this batch file:

@echo off
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
arp -d
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /all
pause

Flushing the DNS & ARP caches fixes my laptops inablitiy to find the websites when I'm booting up all over the country...  and the Pause at the end so you have a chance to read the output for any problems along the way...
