The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

My Wireless Network Woes (Microwave + 2.4ghz Phones + 802.11g = Disaster)

Asked by jer2eydevil88 in Miscellaneous Networking, Wireless Network Access Points, 802.11 Wireless Access Points

For the time being I am using 802.11a to get around the interference I am experiencing in my home, I run a company out of my house and I cannot spread employees out around the house with such limited range.

Problems :
1.) The microwave (when cooking) causes terrible disturbance on all 4 lines of the phone a 2.4ghz 4 line system with 8 handsets.

2.) My 802.11g equipment gets disconnected entirely when the microwave turns on, then the access point requires a reset in order to return my wireless network to a working order.  I own a Netgear accesspoint and I have a Linksys access point operating on different channels to test for the least dropouts.  Both of them fail on any channel when the microwave comes on.

3.)  I can even place the microwave at the opposite side of the house and still experience the same problems.

Attempts to fix problem :
I tried replacing the microwave and it didn't effect the situation.  Let me just say that my mind is now officially boggled.  I need to get my 802.11g and 2.4ghz phones working with a microwave in the house.  When the microwave is not cooking there is no disturbance and everything works perfectly.

I run 5 laptops and 3 desktops off this wireless lan as well as 12 other wired lan machines that function without fail on a daily basis.  I need these machines operational 6 days a week and the 802.11a just doensn't cut it.
