How can I set the SID on a ghosted machine without having to touch it?
I thought about possibly doing it by MAC address, how can I get the SID set after ghosting? Is there some way to set the name in an unattended fashion - such as COMPUTERLAB-1 then each computer +1 to the name?
Naming by MAC address would be the ultimate solution, but I can't find a way to do it. If so, no matter how many times I ghost a lab, they would all be set back to their proper name.

I have thought of those two options, but what I am really looking for is to make sure that the computer in question gets the same SID it started out with.
It's a unique situation - let's say you have a lab of 30 pc's - each one named in such a fashion where the teacher knows the numbering scheme - pc1 is on this side of the room, pc30 is the last one on the other side.
Ok, you want to ghost them all with an updated image, but you want them to keep the same numbering scheme - perhaps there is a small utility that will allow you to record the SID against the machines MAC address, and then put it back after ghosting. Is that possible?
When using NetOp School, or NetSupport etc. you want them named a certain way so that there is no confusion. There may not be a solution, it may be something I have to request Symantec add to the next version.
There is SO much SID paranoia on ghosted drives. The problem is EASY to solve, if you do it right.
Say you ghosted the user JOAN -- well, run JOAN on the network, then boot the ghosted copy. You will get a notice that the computer name and the IP is in use. So big deal, Just go into My Computer, properties and change the name (advanced, computer name) of the new system to something different, reboot, and it is done. What is the big deal? This is all of 2-3 minutes of work, I can't see it is a problem.

the only way I can think off at the moment would be to run a script or batch file that searches the network on first startup for COMPUTERLAB-? then renames to +1, deletes itself out of startup and restarts the pc.
The other option is to have a backup partition hidden on the hard drive so that when it comes time to ghost the pc it just gets the ghost from the backup partition.
