The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Internet running extremely slow on new computer!! WHY???

Hi all!

Ok I recently bought a new computer, and am having trouble with my internet.  The problem is, everytime I connect to the internet it runs extremely slow (dial-up speed! or slower!).  I am running DSL internet BTW.

This PC was homebuilt so don't ruleout a hardware issue either.

Specs on PC:
ASUS K8NE Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Processor
NVidia 6800 GT Video Card
550W PSU
CD-Writer drive
DVD-Rom drive
Floppy Drive
1GB Ram

I first thought that it was because I was using a 100 ft cable, so I tried plugging it in using a short cable (~10 feet) right near my router, which didn't seem to change anything.  I then plugged that same cable into my laptop, and it the internet works fine, so that ruled out the cable/router.

The motherboard has a built in ethernet card, and I have installed all the drivers and downloaded updated drivers from the website and installed those as well, with no luck.

When I run the internet, it sends like 300,000 and recieves like 300 or less so it is working, just extremely slow (even for just surfing the web).

I am not a network guy and know enough to get me by.

If anyone could help me I would appreciate it so much, I really would like to use my new computer, especially to test out some games with the 6800 GT! ;)
