No it is the IP of the Printer.. I would Sugest reading the Printer Manuel . First you want to assign the Printer An IP and then ...............Go to your PC and  you want to go to "PRINTERS" In the control panel ,,
Click on "Add A Printer" Then an Add Printer WIzard will open CLick next and then Make sure " Local Printer attached to this COmputer" BUT MAKE SURE THE "Automatic Detect........" Is UNCHECKED
On the next screen CHoose "Creat new Port" And from the Drop down menu select "standard TCP/IP Port"
THen THe TCP IP wizard will Pop Up.
Click next and enter the Printers IP THe Port name will auto enter itself
When you Click next You select the Device type if you know what it is or Customize it if it is a Panasonic Copier... If you don't know then Just select Generic Click Next. Then you have to select drivers You can Download the Drivers from the Manufact or Use the CD that comes with it. ANd You should be set......

If the printer is attached to a computer with printer cable you just need to load the drivers for the printer onto the pc. Once this is done you can share the printer out from this PC.

If the printer is attached to a network cable it can be it's own printer server and you can assign it an IP address using DHCP or give it a static IP address. In this case you would attach to the printer from your PC using the printers IP address.

Also if the printer is attached to a network cable it can be shared out from a printer server or PC. You would attach to the printer in this case by using it's shared name.

if your printer is attached to a computer then it is not a networked printer..... how are you connecting it???  parrallel cable or ethernet rj45?

if its the first then thats where your going wrong to start with.

your best off putting the MAC address of the printer into DHCP as a reserved address and then going from there.

any probs just ask

If you are using an HP Jetdirect (or any other networking print device), the configuration for it's IP can be handled 2 ways:  Either manually assigning an IP (and a Subnet mask, gateway and all that) or have DHCP handle the IP assignment, then locate it in your DHCP scope and configure it as a shared printer on your server from there.

If you are attaching it to a PC on your network and sharing from there, set up the printer as a local print device (with appropriate drivers for your O/S) and share it.  Connecting to it from other machines is as simple as searching the network and installing.

Print drivers will be another issue.  If you have a network with multiple O/S on it, be sure to install the necessary additional drivers when you install the printer on the shared machine, be it the server or the PC.  It takes a little bit more time but it's worth it.
