The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Lose internet connection after 5 minutes or 5 hours, please help!!!

Asked by lazypinkmonkey in Miscellaneous Networking, TCP/IP, Operating System Specific Networking

Here is my situation: I have roadrunner, with cable modem and no router. The modem is plugged into the wall. When I start my computer, I will be able to surf the net for unexpected amounts of time. This varies between 5 minutes, 5 hours, 15 hours, whatever. I'll be surfing and then all the sudden the "Page cannot be displayed". Once this happens, I verify that it is not roadrunners problem by looking at the modem lights. Then I will disconnect the modem power cord and the lan cable and completely reset the modem. Trying to connect after all this does nothing. I'll try to repair my connection on my nic card and try to connect to the net again and this does nothing. The only way I can ever solve this is to restart my computer. This is very very frustrating.

My computer is not in stand-by mode. I have already tried a new nic card but the problems happens with both the old and new. I've tried to research this problem and all the questions similar to mine always deal with a router or something beyond just a modem. I've tried getting help via roadrunner's customer support but we all know how useless that is. They don't know anything, actually they know less than me. Please help!!
