The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. windows 2003SBS, DUN static IP woes.

I’ve got a DG834GT Netgear ADSL router which connects to the internet fine.  This links via Ethernet to a Windows 2003 SBS server this then connects to the rest of the network.  Inside the Windows 2003 SBS server is a Conexant AccessRunner PCI ADSL modem which is not in use at the moment.

The idea is that I want to be able to take the netgear router out of the equation and just use the PCI modem.  

Our ISP has given us a static IP address which is all well and good but I have to specify the address within the router settings in order to use it.  Using DHCP just gives me a random address from a dynamic pool.  This works fine with the router but when I'm trying to connect using the PCI modem it rejects the address with:

Error 735: The requested address was rejected by the server.

I've setup the address I've been given in the connection properties, TCP/IP properties, they are both using PPPoA, the username and passwords are the same (no they aren’t connecting at the same time) and yet it’s still not working.

I don't understand why it wouldn't work, the only thing I can think of is that you can't assign static ip addresses within windows this way (I've done it using Linux on the same line a few times before).
