Question

WSUS error connecting to Windows server update services database

Asked by: Jweaver57

I had WSUS running on a Windows server 2003 with MSDE and recently have uninstalled it and reinstalled using SQL server 2000 on a different server running 2003.  When I try to open the WSUS admin console it give me "error connecting to Windows Server Update Services database".

What do I try?

Thanks for your responses, but maybe I wasn't clear in my explaination.  I'm now running on two servers.  The front end server running Windows 2003 where WSUS is running.  The backend server is running Windows 2003 and SQL server 2000 (not MSDE).  So I don't see how restoring IIS would be relevant.  I'm also not running SBS 2003.  Was there something specific in those documents?

BTW I have read the install documentation.  Any other ideas?  Thanks

Hey mate

Did you use the wsusutil.exe to perform the migration?  Check out:

That seems similar to your scenario, is that of any use to you?

Well actually we didn't have much in the MSDE database, so I uninstalled WSUS and installed it per SQL pair installation from Microsoft.  It's the installation when using two separate servers, a front end WSUS server and a backend SQL 2000 server.  I really think I have the permissions wrong.
