Question

HOW TO PORT FORWARD THROUGH TWO ROUTERS (WORTH 500)

Asked by: redmanmark

basically i have an adsl modem router going into a linksys wireless router in a setup like this.

--ADSL LINE--ADSL MODEM/ROUTER---LINKSYS (WAN PORT) WIRELESS ROUTER---MY COMPUTER
  IP192.168.1.1 Subnet:255.255.255.0  (Static linksys) IP:192.168.0.1 Subnet 192.168.0.1

also my computer is set to static and runs like so.

IP 192.168.0.10
Gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS 192.168.1.1

however whenever i try to use a program like emule it wont connect or just barely does and a program liek bit spirit startes of fine for the first 10 seconds then just goes dead.

i do port forwarding on the linksys fine but the router part of the ADSL modem baffles me, when i go to set up a new rule in the NAT menu u bit i get these options but dont know what to fill in.

What adsl modem router do you have??

You need to forward the ports that you want to use for Azerus from the linksys to the adsl modem. In the adsl modem you need to open that range of ports to the net to allow the traffic from azerus to pass in and out. You will need to set up an index for this port range on TCP and again for UDP. To allow inbound and outbound on that port range. You should be able to do that in port forwarding configuration in your modem router settings.

See if this resolves your problems as it will be your adsl modem router that doesnt have enough ports open for the azerus traffic.

i have a Jetspeed 520 ADSL modem and the problem is i dont know where port forwarding is on the modem, im pretty sure its the NAT rule entry hting but i dont know what to fill in there.

by: erm0Posted on 2005-12-02 at 04:45:54ID: 15404048

It shouldn't be the nat rule settings it should be under anything like port forwarding/port redirection/applications and gaming/routing anything with a configuration heading like that.

If you have none of those then try putting the port ranges into the NAT rule settings u need to set the protocol TCP and UDP if it lets you only set 1 index or only create 1 rule then set it to UDP.

you have all your local and global addresses above.

just out of wonder out of them ones about which are my local and which are my global?

would i fill it in like this?

NAT Rule Information

Rule Flavor:RDR
Rule ID:3
IF Name:ALL
Protocol:TCP
Local Address From:192.168.0.10 (my PC)
Local Address To:192.168.0.10
Global Address From:192.168.0.1
Global Address To:192.168.0.1
Destination Port From:49569
Destination Port To: 49569
Local Port:49569

it has a routing section but the optiosn there are limited, as so

IP Route | IP Addr | LAN Config | DSL | ATM VC | PPP | EOA | IPOA

also it has a bridging section, would that help?

by: erm0Posted on 2005-12-02 at 05:11:00ID: 15404162

you probably want a range of ports open for azerus check what port it operates on then select a range of 10 or 100 eg From 6000 to 6100 also see if you can create another NAT rule for protocol UDP

by: redmanmarkPosted on 2005-12-02 at 05:26:15ID: 15404250

it does let me put in another for UDP, i can put in as many as i want but im still getting NAT error from azureus,

i put in what it had there and changed Azureus ports to match.

i think the ip info im putting in is wrong.

What I usually do in a case like yours is set the ADSL modem into "bridge mode" and allow the linksys wireless router to handle *everything*.
I have a lot of clients with that same configuration.
If you set your ADSL modem into bridge mode, it will basically just pass traffic through to your linksys router;  the adsl modem won't act as a router....it will let your linksys do the work.

Call either your dsl provider or the manufacturer of the dsl modem and ask how to put it in bridge mode, if you don't know how.  Or maybe do a google search on your make/model.

well i can't call them because there an american company in america and im from the UK and i've tried everything and i jsut dont udnerstnad bridgin at all, and ther ewebsite useless.
dont spose anyone here knows how?

What is the make and model of your dsl modem?

by: redmanmarkPosted on 2005-12-03 at 02:47:44ID: 15410666

the jetspeed 520
it also use the same interface as any vking chipset, so that includes gloespanvirata, dynamode R-ADSL-G1 and a few others.

I found good information here about the JetSpeed 520:

http://www.intracom.gr/helpdesks/jetspeed/faqs_en.htm

Here is an excerpt below that tells you how to change to BRIDGED MODE.  So the device will only act as a modem and you can let your linksys do the routing and other IP controls:

How can I create a Bridged connection for my Jetspeed?
Α. Please delete any existing connection that you have already created for Jetspeed.
Β. Via the "Quick Start" button, please create an "RFC1483 Bridged" connection with the following settings: VPI: 8 & VCI: 35.
C. Save your settings.

What are the differences between a PPPoA and a Bridged connection?
"Using the PPPoA connection the Jetspeed functions as a modem/router, while using the BRIDGED connection the Jetspeed functions only as a dial-up modem."

* If you got your dsl modem through your internet provider, they should help you if you need it. *

unfortunetly i didnt, i had the router from another company and when i left them i joined a new oen where u nd to supply ur own stuff so i did.

i tried what that said and it just doesnt seem to do anything apart from cause errors that it doesnt accept, or if it does work it doesnt take my internet static ip,

however after reading about another modme called the BT Voyager 205 i have got round it using the following method

"To set up zipb mode, follow these steps..
1. Ensure the Voyager's DHCP server is enabled..
The external IP is given to the Voyager and then passed on to your device via DHCP, so the Voyager must have its DHCP server enabled. Ensure there is an active DHCP server pool with poolid=0, with at least one free local IP for your device.

create dhcp server pool poolid 0 start-ip 192.168.1.3 end-ip 192.168.1.99 mask 255.255.255.0 gwy 192.168.1.1
you may prefer to specify a smaller pool, or a shorter lease time..

create dhcp server pool poolid 0 start-ip 192.168.1.3 end-ip 192.168.1.5 mask 255.255.0.0 gwy 192.168.1.1 lease 60 mlease 120
Whatever, so long as it works. Now switch the DHCP server on..

modify dhcp server cfg enable
This page will state the DHCP Mode as "DHCP Server".

2. Disable NAT
In a telnet session, do..

modify nat global disable

3. Enable ZIPB mode
The zipb mode admin page will correctly state whether or not zipb mode is enabled, but setting it there doesn't seem to "stick", so in a telnet session, do..

modify zipb cfg enable

4. Set the PPP interface to "StartOnData"
This will bring up the ppp interface as soon as it detects DHCP requests on the local ethernet. This is generally set when you create the ppp-0 interface, but you can set it separately, just in case..

modify ppp intf ifname ppp-0 startondata

5. Save settings
The important bit that lots of folk forget. In a telnet session, do..

commit

6. Finally, ensure your device is set to be a DHCP client
The router will dynamically assign the device your external IP address, so you need a DHCP client running on that device. If it's a computer running XP, simply open the properties for your local connection (TCP/IP Properties) and set it to "Obtain an IP address automatically". If it's a router or similar, tell it to "get IP address via DHCP" or some similarly worded option.

You can probably set the machine's alternative IP address to your some static LAN IP address, something like 192.168.1.3

That's it!
If all goes to plan, your device should have been assigned a fresh IP from your ISP's pool, and you are live on the internet, bypassing the voyager's NAT altogether."

unfrtunetly i found out the chip that the maximum number of IP sessions the modem can manipulate simultaneously is 512

so that pretty much kill bit torrent for me then i guess
