The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Some PC won't connect to 10/100 switch but will connect to 10 hub?

Asked by t1clausen in Miscellaneous Networking, Network Switches & Hubs

I just replaced 2 older Cisco 1500 micro hubs (10mb) in our warehouse with 1 Cisco 2900 Switch. For some reason I have 3 PC's that don't want to talk to the switch. They are on a long run of cable, around 100 feet.  of the PC's are Compaq's with 10/100/1000 cards and one is an old compaq with a 10 in it. When I plug the cables in to thw switch it flashes like it know something is there, but can't quite get the signal, and the PC's show "cable is not plugged in". I put an old 10 card in one of the gigibit PC's and it picked it up right away and that one is running (at 10 though) but as I didn't have any other spare cards around I plug the hub into the switch and then plugged the two PC's into that just to see.....and they work fine. I'm so stumped right now. They only thing I can come up with is the cable is to long, but I have longer cables all over the place here! Is there a setting I'm missing or something? Both sides are on autodetect and I have a bunch of other PC's running off this switch no problem. Any ideas?Start Free Trial
