Browse All TopicsI need some advice for a large off-site backup project. I have to 2 web sites that are on a dedicated Windows 2k3 Server somewhere. The Server has two hard drives, one is the system drive and one is just for backing up. So I have a batch file that backups (via RoboCopy) up the folders that contain my sites and move them to Secondary HDD. But I need a 3rd off site place to store my backups for worst case scenario protection. The websites are huge. One is 18 GB with 350,000 files and the other is 7 GB with 180,000 files. I have inherited this project, so I don't know enough about the files to be able to consolidate them to save space.
I need to do an off-site backup. I have access to a FTP sits on the same network as my server, so it is fast, but I running into a problems with FTP b/c of the number of files rather then the actual size. I am trying to do a find a way to do a differential back to the FTP Server, so I don't have to push 23 GB of data to the server at a time. But, the shear number of files is causing my backup programs to lock up and not finish.
I have tried a lot of FTP Scheduled programs and got the closest with SyncBack SE, but I need to move in a new direction b/c I am just spinning my wheels.
What is the best way to transfer a large amount data and large number of files to machine that I only have FTP Access to?

My sites are updated my multiple persons on a daily basis. So I would like do daily backups, but I would only need to upload the .zip files one a week. Since this is essentially the 3 line of defense. Is there any reason to choose PKZip over Winzip. Winzip can be scheduled to automatically grab updated and modified .zip file and automatically FTP the file.

I use a program called ahsay remote backup. You can initally seed the files onto a firewire drive or similar, which is then put onto the remote server. Then the backups are incremental. Works fine for us, we have customers backing up 100GB + incrementally
