You can set up internet connection sharing, but I don't think there is any way to use the wireless card as an "access point".  You would have to have a wireless router and network the devices - which defeats what you are trying to.

yes that is possible by creating an adhoc wireless connection.

if ur computer is not connected to the internet via modem (direct), then bridge the LAN & Wireless connection first.

You've have to create an ad-hoc network with the wireless, then try to bridge together the wired and wireless connections.

Here's something on the ad-hoc side of things:

u mean bridge the wireless connection and the nic card connection, then turn on internet connection sharing,  will this make an adhoc connection seem like a wireless access point? i am currently trying to get a wifi access point going so my psp can access the internet

The bridging thing is being called an accident in this article, but this is something you're more or less aiming for.

BTW - Hope you have a router already, just so that you don't run into any conflicts trying to get IPs.

If you're doing ICS, don't do bridging. If you're doing bridging, don't do ICS. But the ad-hoc network is the only way you're going to be able to get computers to connect to each other wirelessly.

ok, well the main aim of what im trying to achieve is this. i have a fileserver on my home network, which is connected to my router via ethernet cable. i also have a belkin 54g pci wireless card installed.

i want to use this card to simualte a wireless access point, so i can get my psp online

I understand what you're doing... that's why you have to make an ad-hoc network. You should be able to just bridge the connections and be cool. I wasn't sure if you were behind a router or not already just to make sure you were already using private IP addresses.

ok, i tried what u suggetsed. i bridged my network connections, however this did not appear to fix the problem, ive set up a ad-hoc connection on the comp, and it shows up in the wireless network list. however, i cant get my psp to work whether i scan for a AP or enter the ssid manually along with all the settings.

i also borrowed a linksys wireless router earlier 2day, and its worked the second i pluged it in with that, i scaned for an AP an my psp brought it up first time, so this makes me think that for some resoan my wireless card isnt broadcasting. in my network connections, my wirless card says its not connected (but there is a network bridge which is connected?)

any ideas?

ok, well i havent had any luck getting my wireless card to act as an access point in windows, but ive been researching this on the net a little and it is possible. but most of the ones i've found require a linux install. now i could do this, but i would really like to figure out how to do it on windows machine (one would think that if u can do it with linux and the same hardware, it would be possible with windows. but then again it is windows!!!) is there any software out there that could do what i require? ie. run that software on the windows box and have it do what linux does???

i seemed like masnrock was on the right track with bridgin the network connections, but ive tried that so may times over the past few days, with no success wot so ever.

any commments suggetsion help advice wotever, throw it this way plz ppl. i need all the info/ideas i can get.

if anyone has ever attempted this before, whether you were successful or not, say here how u went about it. an wot u were using/doing.

thnx in advance

ok, well its been a bit quite here for a day or two, so im guessin not many people in this topic have tried this before.

IS THERE ANY CHANCE/WAY OF MOVING THIS QUESTION TO THE LINUX FORUM??

as i havent been able to find a solution with windows ive decided to go with the linux option. now i know its possible with linux
 ie. http://perform.wpi.edu/whostap/whostap.html

but is it possible to acomplish them same as above, but with a belkin f5d7000 pci card and running fedora core? i am completly new to linux, and barley have a grasp of the basics.

i currently have the linux box up and running and am playing around with it to see if i can get it to work, but it would be nice if a more experienced linux user could provide a bit of help.

I haven't been in here for a couple days... but do you still have the settings and stuff for the wireless side? I know you have it bridged together already.
