The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

ADSL modem/router connected to Wireless Router

Asked by joy333 in Miscellaneous Networking, TCP/IP, File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

I have ADSL rotuer/modem, its connected in PPPoE mode and i have no problem to connect and get internet using the available 4 LAN ports.

I have got Wireless 4 Ports router, i have connected my ADSL modem/router into the WAN(Internet) port of my wireless router, and setup the WAN port as DHCP client.

ADSL modem/rotuer IP is 192.168.1.1

Wireless Router IP is 192.168.1.254

My router only picks up the IP from the modem/router if i changed the wirless rotuer IP to different subnet like 192.168.2.1. Why i can not use the same subnet, do i need to change the subnet to work, to recieve the IP automatically from the ADSL Modem/router?

I have few 2 Pcs connected to the ADSL modem/router they can ping each other on 192.168.1.x subnet but if ping from the 192.168.1.x host to 192.168.2.x i can't, i want to conenct all my PCs even if they are running in difference subnet (if i can't use same subnet) and share the files/folders (as i can't see my computers under same domain)

Is there any otther i can setup my network so that i can solve this issue. If i turned off the DHCP on the wireless router does it works, since ADSL modem/router is acting as DHCP server, is it possibe to get 192.168.1.x IPs to all the PCs conected to my router from the modem/router

Thanks!
