UTP cable is limit if It's longer than 100metre. Check your conection by command ping to your computer for check network connection.
you should also check your internet and subnet mask.

So are you getting messages saying your cable is disconnected?  This could be down to speed/ duplex autonegotiation issues.  Hard code both your PC and your router to 100Mb Full duplex or 10Mb half duplex.  Check if your PC supports 10/100 and also your router.  The other thing to check is the cable.  Ensure that it is CAT5 or above.

hello. same issue has been answered before . it the autonegotiation that you network card does by default. set it up to 100 full duplex and check it. if you network goes down its sure that your both ends do not have the same speed. also check your cable. if it is hand made it may have poor connections. :)

Mohawk1 how do l hard code both the Pc and the router, dont understand what you mean by that

by: mohawk1Posted on 2006-08-08 at 09:50:08ID: 17272855

ok, with the pc, if it's XP,

start>Connect to>show all connections>right click on Local Area Network>properties>configure>advanced>speed and duplex> click on 100/Full

Not sure what type of router you have, but ensure it is set to the same as the PC.  Essentially, make sure they are both 10/half or 100/full.

If you have another cable, use that.

Cheers

over that distance you should have no issue with connectivity.
i have to say i think it looks like a hardware or cable issue if the same thing happens when you move the cable to another port on your linksys i would check the length of cable.
I have seen this issue once before and it was a new router which turned out to be faulty.
What would be good if you had another pc with a neteork card in it you could do some fault testing.
Putting your ip manually may also help.

i really do think its the router as specially if its new and you have had no period of reliablilty or you have upgraded F/W and the issue has started from their.
