PC conncting to router.

I'm encountering a strange problem. Intermittantly, a new PC that we recently installed stops seeing the router. The strange thing is, the PC can still see other PCs on the network. I can ping other PCs and open network drives, but I cannot even ping the router, let alone connect to the Net through it. The other PCs on the network have no issue. They can still connect to the Net and ping the router.

After a brief period of time, it simply can connect again. I can start surfing the net and ping the router again. I can't seem to find any trigger as to what's stopping the connection between the two.

We are running on a small workgroup. the router is our only gateway and there is a server acting as DHCP. there is no other firewall on the desktop other that the Windows SP2 firewall and we are running Avast! antivirus.

I have checked on the router and there doesn't seem to be any settings that might cause this (no time restraints etc). the only setting I thought might be affecting things is the DOS SPI firewall on the router.

I'm stumped as to where to start even looking! Any help would be cool.
