Question

Pinging on my wireless network. 3com 8760 wireless access nodes

Asked by: amanzoor

Hi all
I am running windows 2003 ent edition domain.  I just recently changed my wireless access nodes from (Home version Linksys WRT54GS routers acting as access nodes) to 3com 8760 enterprise edition wireless access nodes.  Now over the wireless no two clients can ping each other.  The moment if any one of them connects itself to ethernet it can ping all other clients ?
I was able to ping before from any laptop on the wireless.  What needs to be changed or added please help.

Do the access points have some form of security that need to be opened up to allow pings from the wired side through? Can you ping the access point from the wireless device? Check your wireless security as some devices claim to be connected even though the security is not accepted, so you are 'connected' but without being about to send/recieve data.

Sounds like the wireless clients are on a different IP net than the wired.  You sure those wireless are acting as AP's and NOT routers?  Can you show us an IPCONFIG from the wireless and the wired?

It sounds like you've got security inside of your wireless 3com set to not allow ping requests.

pseudocyber:
I re checked the ip addresses on all wireless access nodes these are 10.10.10.111,112,113,114 subnet is 255.255.255.0 Default gateway is same 10.10.10.3 on all primary and secondary DNS is same on all i.e 10.10.10.3 and 18, DHCP: 10.10.10.1.
For wired ip would be 10.10.10.X with all other values of IP same. So no problem here.  I am positive that all the wireless nodes are AP's and NOT routers.

Solution:
Got it guys:
*****Inter Client STAs Communication Filter --Enable this filter to prevent direct communication between wireless clients, creating a more secure wireless network. Select:
Disable to allow all wireless stations to communicate.
Prevent Intra VAP Client Communication - to prevent clients on different VAPs from communicating.
Prevent inter and intra VAP Client communication - to prevent clients on the same VAP and on different VAPs from communicating.
AP Management Filter --Enable this*****
The moment I disables it, all wireless clients could ping each other.  Nice feature to have for security.
Thanks all
