How can I reset a Linksys WRT54GC to factory settings?

I have a acquired the need to reset a Linksys WRT54GC WAP/Router back to the factory settings? Does anyone know how? I have held in the reset button during a power recycle and that did not work. The person who set the password cannot remember it.

Reset the Router to factory default by pressing the Reset button for 10 seconds and then releasing it.
Resetting the Router

Note: Resetting the router will restore the manufacturer default settings which will cause a loss of any configuration changes you have made.

OPTION 1

Resetting the router using the reset button:

Hold in the Reset button on the back of the router for 20 seconds. Unplug the power to the router then plug it back in.

OPTION 2

Resetting the router using the router's web-based setup page:

      Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer .

      Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router's IP Address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press [Enter].

      Step 3:
A new window will appear and ask for a "User name" and "Password." Leave the User name space blank, type in your routers password ("admin" is the default password), then click OK.

      IMPORTANT:
If the router's password has been changed, type the router's new password instead.

The router's password can be changed by:
+ Running the router's setup CD.
+ Changing it on the router's web-based setup page.

If you forgot the router's password, press the reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds.

Note: This procedure will reset your router to factory defaults. Any settings on the router will be erased. The router's IP address will be 192.168.1.1 and the password will be 'admin.'

      Step 4:
On the router's web-based setup page, click the Administration tab then Factory Defaults.

      Step 5:
To Restore Factory Defaults, select Yes

Accualy it takes 20 sec, this is from my post above, which is coppied directly from the linksys wabpage.
I copied mine post of the users manual as well.  And then, ironically, I had to reset one today.  Bschwarz is right.  It takes much longer.  Don't power cycle, hold the reset in and just when you think "this ain't gonna work", keep holding some more, it will eventually reset.
