The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Internet Gateway : something is wrong

Hi,

I am using Linux machine to act as my Internet gateway to my office network. Every thing is working fine, except on some occasion I am not able to connection to FTP servers, and if connection is made File transfer doesn't work or its too slow.

Complete secanrio is :
We have x Windows Machine in my office, some is running Windows XP, some Windows 2000 etc etc. Few are linux machine as well. Now , we set up Linux to act as Internet gateway, so taht we can control Internet Access for developer in office. something like blocking unwanted email service (web based), sites etc.
for that I configure Squid on Linux box, and give my server IP 192.168.10.1, and now all other machine i network has IP from 192.168.10.2 onwards. with gateway set to 192.168.10.1 and DNS as our ISP. No Firewall is there on gateway machine or ISP router. Now, when we do FTP, IM messenger login, SMTP connection from outlook, or for matter play online game, every thing is suppose to work normally, though they get routed from Gateway machine, but since nothing is working on gateway machine it should work fine. But only Web sites are gaurded by Squid and SquidGaurd.i.e. every http:// request is filtered.

But when I try to ftp to windows Server, or some linux server, FTP works too slow and if they have large files it doesn't allow, FTP to work correctly.
