The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Wireless signal strengh woes

hello,

Thank you all for taking the time to read this question.

I am a client on a wireless network that my friend has set up in our block of flats (well that i set up for them) - anyway cos I set it up for her she said I can use the network to go on the internet.

This is the problem though...

She only lives about 3 doors down from me and yet the signal strengh is terrable (15% at best 0% at worst) and so it keeps dropping the connection on my laptop - much more so in the day than at night (and im talking about once every 2 minutes or so if that) this is course is killing me lol

so i was wondering if anyone had any idea how to make the signal stronger - im thinking signal booster?

I am however more inclined for software than hardware for 2 reasons -

1. My friend is a "if it aint broke dont fix it" type and so now her network works she is not gonna let me physically attach anything to the router or computer.

(but she will let me change router setting for "maintinance" just probabbly wouldnt be able to install anything (eg - firmware) unless it was over wireless) - which probabbly isnt a good idea with the conection the way it is :/

2. I have a very very low budget at the moment - I would consider hardware that I can use at my end but as a last resort - or if that is really the ONLY way to boost it.

The router is already next to the wall closest to my house - and - the network adapter is in the best place for the signal (as it is the only specific spot that actually see's the network at all.

Thank you for your help in advance

Darren
