The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

D-LINK DP-300U Printer Server (2 parallel, 1 usb)

Asked by bigricky in Miscellaneous Networking, TCP/IP, Wireless Network Cards & Adapters

I am attempting to setup a D-LINK Print Server... It's been in the box for over a year, maybe two and I just cracked the seal yesterday.  The default IP is 192.168.0.10 however I am unable to discover the unit on the network.  I have setup the router to the correct IP and subnet (which is 255.255.255.0 as recommended), I have also tried a cross over cable linking the Print Server directly to my laptop.  I have tested the voltage out of the transformer and it is 5v as stated on the unit and xfmr.

I am at a loss... it mentions IPX protocols as well as TCP/IP and I'm wondering if by default it uses IPX instead (it doesn't say this but I have tried everything else).  I know in the past, when setting up a print server that they can be rather flaky or stubborn so that's why I haven't scrapped it yet.

btw, I have tried accessing via the print server software that came with it as well as 192.168.0.10 through IE.

Any idea or suggestions are welcome!  I hate to toss it out because it's worth $60-$70 bucks if I have to replace it.

Thanks, Rich
