The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. How do I solve this DNS VPN issue?

Here is my configuration:
1. En-Touch ISP - static IP address
2. Router - Dlink - DGL4300
3. Laptop attempting to connect to my new VPN at work.

Tried already:
1. I connected the same exact laptop to the vpn from another location no problem using the default pptp settings.
2. I get home and use the same login and I cannot ping anything on the work network except via IP
3. If I HARDCODE my DNS settings for my isp into my network adapter and hardcode the DNS settings for my work into my tcp/ip settings for my vpn connection, then I can navigate the network by name.

Obviously number 3 is not workable, because I cant have my users doing this everytime they come home from work. Some can login fine from this same isp, so I am positive this is a client configuration specific issue.

I suspected the router, so I go into the settings for the router and notice that there is a checkbox for my isp settings that is checked off that says: "Enable DNS relay".  The problem is that if I uncheck this, I can no longer get online.

Anyone have any idea?
