Rather than use the installation program log into the router manually. Open your Internet Explorer/Mozilla/Safari and change the webpage to 192.168.0.1
That's normall the ip address that belkin uses. Log in with the default username and password from the manual (unless you changed it)
From there you can setup advanced options and wireless options like wep security/etc

If your room mate can't see you:
1. Make sure "Broadcast SSID" is enabled
2. Make sure you roommate has a compatible (802.11g) wireless card
The easiest way to secure a household connection is via a WEP key. This is configured in the router and then the same key needs to be entered into your connection software. I believe Belkin software will challenge you for it automatically when you try to connect to a secured connection.
