Browse All TopicsI have a question regarding the difference, overall benefit of VPN, IPSEC, and/or GRE TUNNEL. While
watching our senior network engineer try and build a GRE TUNNEL to another router via
cable access, he decided to try IPSEC instead. The GRE TUNNEL was not "working" as he wished,
so he built a an IPSEC tunnel instead. However users would be unable to reach certain servers
behind a firewall, so he decided just to let them VPN if they needed to reach servers behind that
firewall. So he had IPSEC and VPN at remote client location whose only access was broadband cable.
I understand you can use a GRE TUNNEL and IPSEC (for routing protocol issues), but are all
three of these entirely independent of each other?
