I've been using Remote Desktop for years with Windows XP on my home computer. I just setup a wireless router using the Linksys WRT54G. I can remote into my desktop computer from within the network, but no longer can I remote into externally.
I set port forwarding according to the directions on
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G/Remote_Desktop.htm. The only difference is I don't have the "Disable Firewall Protection" option my router menu. Other than that, I followed all the instructions exactly.
From outside the network, I can ping my router and it seems to come back fine, but I cannot connect using RDP externally. I forwarded ports 3389 to the internal ip address of the desktop. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I may be missing? If I plug the desktop into the DSL modem, then I can remote desktop just fine.
