Hi,
Every time I log onto my university VPN from my wireless network at home I get disconnected from my wireless network after a minute or two.
Then when I refresh the list of wireless networks, mine is not present and it stays that way until I switch my wireless adapter off and on again, after which I can reconnect to my wireless network.
The wireless is a 192.168.xxx.xxx address and the VPN is 10.2.xxx.xxx address so it's not an IP conflict. I have updated the firmware on the Netopia router and my wireless adapter's drivers to no avail.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am using the built in VPN client that comes with windows XP.
I lose both connections. The wireless is my only link to the outside world so when it goes down there is no connection for the VPN to use.
If I use a wired connection to my router, the VPN works fine but the location of the router prohibits this.
Are you using encryption on the wireless? If yes, try no encryption just as a test.
If you're using wpa2, did you load the patch from MS?

Yes just WEP encryption. I tried turning it off but that made no difference.
One point which I forgot to mention in the initial description of the question is that I use a repeater to boost the signal around the house.
I tried moving closer to the main router and connecting wirelessly directly to it (rather than through the repeater) and things seemed better. Although I didn't test it exhaustively.
It's a belkin access point/repeater and it has the latest firmware. It has a separate SSID but identical WEP keys to the main router.
I can't see why using it should make any difference though.
Any thoughts?
It is already set to only allow wireless g.
I think the signal quality is quite good. I have full signal strength with a speed of 54Mb/s listed in XPs wireless zero configurator.
In addition I have a ping -t to www.google.ie running and it has constant replies with 40-60ms reply times.
possibly, especially on-campus, someone may be using a 802.11 PreN wireless router. Since the PreN uses B & G channels - when connected - it has been documented that PreN can and will completely block out other wireless (neighboring) signals.
The ping -t will hopefully provide helpfiul information.

Do you lose your VPN connection as well? If not, this is normal behavior for some VPN's. The idea being that connecting a "non-secure" network to a "secure" one is a security hole.
What client are you using?
