MPLS for Dummies

Ok...can someone give me a dummy version of how MPLS works and the benefits. Our new voice over data services uses this? And when I mean dummy version. I mean take the IQ scale and go to the lowest number you can...and then minus 3 more from that. I see alot of techincal talk on it and it is hard to wrap around at the moment.
