I provide support for a network that has about 60 workstations. All the workstations are running Windows XP sp2. All the agents in the call center use Outlook Express. I have about 4 users running Outlook for their Email application, the remainder all use Outlook Express.v6.x.
Starting Yesterday my helpdesk started to take complaints that the users icon for outlook express was gone. The were now seeing an icon for Outlook. Today I have another 3 users with the same complaint. Outlook express Icon is gone, replaced with Outlook. All the *.dbx files are in the right place and there are no PST files set up for these users. I opened IE on one of these users and clicked on Internet Options, and under the programs Tab I removed the OUTLOOK setting in favor of the OUTLOOK EXPRESS setting. Then I was able to use the tools selection to read mail and force Outlook Express to ppen.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? What is causing this strange problem and what is the accepted solution. Thank you -John
