Question about Bandwidth consumed by Internet browsing

Asked by master_windu in Miscellaneous Networking, Web Site Statistics Software / WebTrends

we are planning to install an application that communicates with a centralized sql server.  the documentation states that for reliable WAN performamce, each user should have 40 kb of bandwidth available.

So for a typical site with 5 installs, this will create 200kb of traffic assumming they are all communincating to the DB at the same time.  A typical WAN connection for our sites is 512K.  So this app potentially taking up almost half of our bandwidth seems a little concerning to me however I have nothing to compare it to.

My question is, how much traffic does normal/typical internet browsing generate? If all 5 users are browsing the internet ( not streaming or downloading huge files) how much of the 512k circuit would they be using?
