Help with network/switch problem.
Hi,
The office I work in is running about 25 Vista PC's.
One side of the office is plugged into a 3com and Edimax switch and the lights are flashing on and off on both switches which indicates an error on the network, at first I thought the switches didn't like Vista, but 5 pc's are connected to a netgear switch and they operate fine.
Could there be something plugged into the network that would be causing this, users report slow speeds, how can i test.

no but the lights on this switch and others are amberlights on constant and then the traffic lights are no flashing out of sync to indicate different PC's making connections, but all the lights are flashing together on and off on and off on and off.
Looks like your switch is malfunctioning then.
First of all, can you verify that every connection is made from switch to endpoint?
It looks like your network is experiencing broadcast storms. You should try to make sure there is no cable going out one interface and into another on the same switch.
- Is it a managed switch?
> Can you view the error/collision counters on the interfaces?
> Can you enable spanning tree on your network?
- Can you disconnect (all) interfaces and check if the behaviour is still the same?
- Is this behaviour only ocurring on this switch or on other switches too?

Hi,
This is the second switch I have tried, the first an Edimax did the same and it died the other week so this a new one 3com, there is still another Edimax switch which is in use and this does the same with all the lights flashing on and off. I have a netgear switch which is only used for my servers and this works fine, lights are normal, but both of the others which have all the vista pc's connected have the flashing lights.
I can not verify every connection is made from switch to endpoint, would have to check.
it is a managed switch, I have attached an error/collision result for you see below.
My switch can do spanning tree but im not familiar with this or how to set it up.
I did some testing last week and had just one pc plugged in and it did the same for just one, I did a network cable test and it was failing
