Hi i have a server with 2 NIC (Intel ve pro 100/1000) and each of the NIC is connected to a seperate switch. I teamed them up so that it will load balance the traffic coming to the server but after teaming i could not ping any workstations connected to either switches.
I an pretty new to networking so i am not sure if i am even doing things correctly.

Whether you can do this is dependent on the brand/model of the switch. For example, with Cisco, you can only do this with 3750's or 6500 VSS switches. And IIRC there's a few Nortel's that allow multi-chassis etherchannel.
But this is typically a feature found on higher-end switches.
When you team NICs on a server, those NICs must bost connect to preconfigured ports on a managed switch. IF you have a Cisco switch. this is called etherchannel.
Now depending on how you team the nics, your code would look like this:
interface Port-channel1
description Port-Channel to teamed NICs
switchport access vlan 10
switchport mode access
.
.
.
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
description Team NIC Port
switchport access vlan 10
switchport mode access
channel-group 1 mode active
interface GigabitEthernet0/2
description Team NIC Port
switchport access vlan 10
switchport mode access
channel-group 1 mode active
When you team the NICs together, you usually get a choice of AFT, SFT, ALB or IEEE 802.3ad. If you connect to Cisco equipment, I would suggest using 802.3ad and the 'mode active' int the switch config.

When you team network cards you form etherchannel. Unfortunatelly the other end has to be connected to two different switches OR the switches has to be stacked.
