Yes Layer3 Switch is special switch.
main Advantages.
1) It can work on layer3 also so it can do routing also. For intervlan routing.
2) Unlike routers which makes routing decision on software based, Layer3 switch will use its Hardware capability to route the packets with very high speed.
These are the Main two advantages of Layer3 switch.
It comes with cost.
dont go for it unless you really need it.
