cannot ping another PC in my network, two TCP-IP apps cannot connect

Hi,

I have two vista laptops next to each other at my home office. They have ip address 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3 (router IP is 10.0.0.1) They connect to internet using a router using wireless. I have a client server APP which I want to run on these laptops. Client and server connect with each other using TCP-IP using port no 12348. I need to run SERVER on one laptop and client on another. Antivirus run on both the laptops (McAfee and QuickHeal respectively). Windows firewall is active on both laptops. I have already added port number to the list of exceptions on server PC.

PROBLEM

Client app on one vista cannot connect to server app on another vista.
I cannot ping one laptop from another. Tested in both direction.
The client server APP works perfectly well in other setups.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your response.

I have changed settings on one laptop (having McAfee) to accept incoming pings. I can now run server on this laptop and the client on the other. My app can make connection in one direction (client on laptop-2 and server on laptop-1). It cannot yet make connection in another direction, but I can move forward with this for now.

appreciate your help.
