Unix network UP and DOWN.

Asked by KG1973 in Unix Setup, Unix Networking, Miscellaneous Networking

Hi, we a UNIX server with the following spec :

Sun Sparc Enterprise T5220 Server
4 core 1.2ghz ultrasparc 2 processor
4GB FBDIMM memory
with solaris 10 and Java enterprise system software

The problem is, sometime we can connect but most of the time it failed to response.
I am not an expert on unix but I do have experience in Windows server.

Strangely every afternoon, about 4-5pm, I can ping its ip address. But in the morning, it was totally down. I can't even ping on the machine itself. What seems to be the problem ?

Since this server is not used for sometime, I am thinking to reset the ip, but I don't know how and I am not sure whether that will solve the problem. I am more interested finding out what caused the problem before doing anything.

Please helpme to mitigate this problem.
