imes,
Did you get an error when you followed Kevin3NF's instructions?
If not, is it the web tools or the non-web tools that can't connect to the database

Browse All TopicsHi,
I have inherited a problem since conntracting at my new place of work, i am using websense enterprise v6.3 running on win2k3, it stopped logging user history when my sql server license expired.
Websense was installed on a new box and the db was moved to a SAN sql share, the logging service is running fine, the reporting application can report on the data in the DB.
The problem is (reporting tools) Enterprise Explorer is reporting " Couldn't connect to database" , i have tried IP / instance name, different user accounts and it just will not connect. After i got the logging service working the websense reporting app worked fine, and this seemed to populate the DB instance and DB name in "enterprise explorer".
Any ideas

Take websense out of the equation and use a UDL file to make a direct connection to the SQL Server...
Right click your desktop>>New>>Text document. Change the name to whatever.udl
Double-click the udl file and select the Providers tab - Microsoft OLEDB provider for SQL Server
Connection Tab - try browsing for the SQL Server, or typing in the correct name. Use Windows Authentication and click the Test Connection button
If you get an error, post the exact message or screenshot here
If it works, teh SQL Server and your connection are fine...issue is with the other application
