You will need to contact Gateway for recovery media for your machine if you do not have the OS CDs
You may also be able to do this if you still have the i386 directory intact on your machine
I hope this helps !

Browse All TopicsI am trying to reinstall my os (Windows XP) onto my laptop -- Gateway moodel m320xl, but I no longer have the start-up/recovery disk that originally came with the system. Is there a way to reboot from the hard drive and bypass the need for a start-up floppy? Or alternatively, how can I get my hands on a copy of the start-up disk? Is there any other software out there that will accomplish the same thing: wiping the computer and returning it to original manufacturer settings?

Just boot off a Windows XP CD and install XP, the O/S will install no problem but you may need to install some drivers afterwards depending on the hardware in the laptop.
