SharePoint Designer Data View Properties - Editing - Link Options are all greyed out.

Hi Guys,

Basically what I need to do is exactly in this Microsoft article, http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointdesigner/HA101191131033.aspx?pid=CH100667641033, but the options to Edit, delete, or insert records under Common Data View Tasks - Data View Properties - Editing - Link Options menu are all greyed out.  I created  multiple, single Data View sources but now luck.  All i need to do is enable this Data View to update/modify certain columns and rows.  Any ideas would be appreciated.
