as clarification, all of the remote office servers with WSUS are downstream servers. the one here in our mian office is the main WSUS server. I'll take a look at those articles. we only have myself and 1 other person(as a backup) but we need some tech support guys to be able to view WSUS for a security report so they can see if the computer is even showing up in WSUS at all.

Not really sure why you would need to add many people to the WSUS reporters group(how many people are administering WSUS?)
I would look over both of these articles. With the combination of the information below you may be able to either drop the number of WSUS servers to 1, or get it centralized to 1 and the others would just be downstream servers.
