How can I analyze the types and amount of data across the network?

Hi Experts,

I working on finding a better enterprise backup solution for about 45 Windows servers.
Does anyone know of a tool that can look at data across the network and give me a summary of the type and amount of data I have?

Our networking department runs an application called "Observer" - http://www.networkinstruments.com/products/observer/index.html

I can't say I've used it and I don't know the price, but I certainly know they like it.  I've seen it in use and it does record all traffic coming to and from every computer in the company.  It can tell you how much traffic is coming to and from each computer and it has a very nice reporting platform.  I don't know if it gives protocol level details, but you can look into it.  May be a place to start.

I'm not looking at traffic. I'm really looking at storage.
For example, I need to know that there are:
3.3 GB of .txt files
5.1 GB of .doc files
55 GB of .mdb files

And I need to scan all my servers for this info..
Does that make sense?

Yes, it makes complete sense.  Sorry, I misunderstood the question.  I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that.  Just doing a quick search, I've found the below software, but I will not calim to know anything about it.  It has a light version that is free, so you may be able to get a feel for it before purchasing anything.
