Adding switches

OUr main comms room has a fibre link round site. This fibre passes into the back of our cisco switch. As this got full of connections, we then added another switch next to it and connected via a crossover cable. This switch is now full and I need to add another again. I am juts going to connect to the 2nd switch using a crossover cable again.

My question is this - Is this the smartest thing to do and how many can I keep adding this way before I'm affecting network speed?
