Hi,
I have the following scenario that I would like some assistance on and ideas of how to implement.
X Council Information Communication Technology (X ICT) department have a responsibility to provide all comprehensive and Primary Schools with network services such as Web Proxy, Email Filtering, File Storage,DNS and a Schools Management System (SMS).
Currently each school have clearly split networks for Corporate and Cirriculum. The Corporate network allows admin staff and teachers to use corporate IT systems such as Outlook/Exchange, Finance, Payroll/HR, Intranet as well as an SMS system at each school. This network is strictly controlled by the X ICT Infrastructure team due to the critical nature of the Corporate systems.
The Cirriculum network is managed at the school and the X ICT Infrastructure team have little control over its use, but do provide a web proxy service. This network can facilitate any systems that aid in delivering the curriculum.
These networks currently use VLANs and are trunked back to the core network. Security policy defines that no Curriculum devices can connect through to the Corporate Network.
There has been a longstanding issue at the schools, in that Headteachers do not wish to spend money on two PCs to access the two separate networks in the same office. The primary reason for X ICT not allowing one PC for both is security of the Corporate Network.
Please present how you would implement a new model for schools networks, that provide greater flexibility for Headteachers and retain an acceptable level of security.
Thanks,
