Browse All TopicsHi! I'd like to redesign my network and have drawn up two ideas (attached below).
At the moment, I have an ADSL modem/router/access point on the ground floor with one CAT5e cable going to the first floor, which is connected to a second access point. My office is on the first floor and has a couple of workstations.
What I'd like to do is add a proxy server somewhere between my office and the Internet. I've heard Squid was a good choice for this.
If possible, I'd like to have the server located in my office (Figure A), but am not sure if this would even work. I want to use the server as a gateway to force all conncetions through it (i.e. I don't want to simply configure my web browser to go through a proxy, but rather configure my NIC to use the server as a gateway). I think this would probably mean I'd need to use two DHCP servers on the same network, and I don't even know if that's possible.
Anyway, please have a look at the attached images and let me know what you think. Would they both work; what are the pros and cons, etc...
Thanks!
