Browse All TopicsHi,
I have network of 4 servers and 4 staff computers. I currently host Exchange SharePoint and I have Domain controller which replicates to different company sites. We are basically the computer centre for our company.
We are using a subnet of 192.168.0.x - very basic and I wanted to change this to something that one of other offices use - they use 172.25.25.0 and I wanted to change ours to 172.25.26.0
My question is what do I change my servers IP's to, or does it matter? Can someone give me some guidance my networking skills are not the best. Currently I have this IP's for my 4 servers
192.168.0.2
192.168.0.5
192.168.0.6
192.168.0.7
When I make the network change can I just change it to 172.25.26.2, 172.25.26.5 etc...or something I am presuming anything will be ok as long as it is outside of our dhcp range which I am planning to be 172.25.26.100 - 172.25.26.150
This might sound like a stupid question but I want to 100% sure in the job I am doing.

You can change the IP address of the servers to anything you like.
Personally I put the router on .254, and start the servers at .1 and go up. The only thing to watch is that the DNS servers are set correctly before you reboot, otherwise things will be very slow to reboot.
Thus, what I usually do is stop all the services I can on machines that are not domain controllers, change their IP address and DNS server, then shut them down.
On the first domain controller, change its IP address and DNS and reboot. Repeat for the second domain controller.
Then the other servers are started once the DCs are running.
Client machines can be rebooted to get new DHCP addresses once that has been setup.
