The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

VLAN Setup and Routing

Asked by darkcometice in Network Operations, Network Switches & Hubs

Tags: , ,

I wanted to get some expert opinions and a couple of questions answered on a network configuration I am planning.  Here is what I currently have.

     Router
          |
   ASA 5520
          |
   3750-12S
          |
[12] 3560Gs

What I want to do is configure 10 to 12 vlans which I will set up on the 3750-12S.  I would like this switch to serve as the aggregate switch.  The vlans are as follows:

Vlan1 10.0.0.254/24
Vlan10 workstations 10.0.1.254/24
Vlan20 private wireless 10.0.2.254/24
&
Vlan90 servers 10.0.9.254/24
Vlan100 maintenance 10.0.10.254/24

ASA Inside 10.0.10.252
Router xxx.xxx.100.254

All switches would be moved to the management vlan and assigned addresses in the 10.0.10.x/24 range along with the ASA inside interface.  I would create the vlans on all switches manually.  Now each subnet/vlan will need a gateway.  Would you assign the default gateway addresses on the 3750-12S and then point them to use a default route to the ASA or would you trunk to the ASA and create sub-interfaces on the ASA?  I guess I would rather have the 3750-12S handle all inter-vlan routing.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I will have a dhcp server sitting on the server vlan that will handle all requests from some of the vlans so I know I will have to use helper addresses to point to vlan90.  Just to give a little more info about the environment.
