Crossover Configuration

Asked by jdana in Network Operations, Network Cards & Adapters, TCP/IP

Tags: Crossover Cable

I'm going to use a crossover cable for the first time today.  Should I set the TCP/IP settings on auto or set them manually?

If I set it up manually, presumably both NICs go in the same subnet (192.168.1.X/24).  Should I create a fictitious Gateway and DNS addresses and put them in the subnet or leave them blank?

I'll make sure both machines are in the same workgroup.

Are there other settings I need to consider?  "Client for Microsoft Networks"?  "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks?"
