The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

explanation of "limit by quota" in websense 6.3

Hello guys.  I know that limit by quota in websense sets a limit of 60 minutes for a user to access a website.  My first question is is this 60 minutes per day, per week or per year?  And does websense track this by IP address or user name.  In other words can users move around the office (just a hypothetical to get around this time limit.)   Also do most of you user the default websense settings for your organization and then customize as needed or do you use the block adult, etc.  Thanks as always for your time and input.

We don't use the "Limit by quota" so I had to look in the AdminGuide (We have 6.3.1 so it might be slightly different).

Quota time is allocated on a daily basis, and the amount allocated can be altered.   It can be per user, per workstation or per group.  It depends on which one you have allocated quota time to.

Once quota time is configured, it activates a priority list for each time a user requests a site in a quota category. Websense software searches for quota time configured for:
1. The user.
2. The workstation or network (range of IP addresses).
3. Groups of which the user is a member.
If a user is a member of multiple groups, Websense software grants the quota time according to the Use more restrictive blocking setting under Server > Settings > Common Filtering.

4. Default quota time.

You can alter the default setting via Server > Settings > Common Filtering.

I manage a school so we have multiple policies.

Before introducing it we discussed what was appropriate for students to access and what was appropriate for staff to access.  Also we didn't want it to interfere with our servers.

We informed staff (and asked them to tell students) that it was going to be implemented. We set it to monitor for the first week or so just to ensure that it was working and get an idea of what the different categories actual were.

Default policy is block everything.  All categories and protocols
Servers have full access, only monitoring

Students have a very strict policy set (for example adult, illegal, email, mp3, video, games blocked) as we don't have enough bandwidth
Staff have a less restrictive policy set (adult, illegal, mp3, etc) but have email, video, games
Some administration have full access

Thank you very much.  Having something to reference and compare is absolutely a help.  Just out of curiosity, why don't you use quota time for any of the categories? I've told my manager that limiting people, for example to the 60 minutes default per day for a category or site with the quota time applied, is more than reasonable.  Thanks again.  That was very nice to provide me with a snapshot of your filtering policy.
