I have two networks in my office using separate static IP addresses from road runner ISP. The first network is used for the office and the workstation is on 192.168.0.1 The router is a sonic wall on 192.168.0.254. The second network is used to backup data from an off site location and the workstation is on 192.168.3.49. The router is a Linksys router on 192.168.3.1. Both networks connects to the ISP's router that has 4 input ports and is programmed by the ISP. Can I communicate between the two routers so I can save data from the 192.168.0.1 workstation to the 192.168.3.49 workstation. The data amount I'm backing up is about 60GB so I don't want to go through the internet and back into the office. It seems like I could use the land ports on the routers and set it up. Is this possible and how would I do it.
Create a VLAN between your 2 networks..... If you dont have access to your LAN routers, ask your service provider to do it..... You can also check to see what the router offers, but if you can enable IP routing and or OSPF alonf with your VLAN, this shold rectify your problem. Let me know how this works out for you.
Would the VLAN be configured from the ISP's router? Right now I have a sonic wall router and a linksys router connected to the ISP's router. When things were first configured there were no intentions on talking between the two networks but now we would like to communicate between two workstations.
Are you able to tracert from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.3.49 and vice-a-versa?
If you can, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to transfer files between workstations. You should be able to transfer data by simply putting the workstation in the same workgroup (provide you are using workgroups), or in the same domain.
