Well what I was doing was more than just pinging, it was looking up groups that each person belonged to and a few other things, all of it done with each host that was found to be up, 5000+ took a few hours. But the first link I posted were all you do is specify your file that contains the host's should take a few minutes depending on how many hosts.

I asked a similar question, and went so far as to get the script to "multi-thread" and do groups of computers at the same time to speed up results (5000+ computers in various domains)
