Hardware and software inventory

I need a software to collect hardware and software inventory of a huge network of several hundreds of PCs (most of then are windows PCs). I need an enterprise level solution.

It would be great if very little or no congihuration would be needed in the client side. It would also be great if i could include in the systems network devices as printers.

I have seen several recommendations here at EE about this issue, but i am a little worried about the size of my network, it is big, maybe 500 PC's and growing, i have to be sure i get an "enterprise" solution. Price is not an issue right now, but of course, the cheaper the better.

Any help will be very appreciated, any info, experience, link, comment, opinion... whatever

Thanks in advance

I used OCS Network Inventory for about 200 PCs. You can download the reports in CSV format or view them in a web browser. Initial configuration wasn't too difficult and I just have a bat script (basicly it has all the server configuration for the client in the CLI) that I run on the workstation to set it up the first time.

I've got a program called SOSOS that does what you're looking for (with the possible exception of networked printers).   It can be configured to run in a login batch or can be used to "poll the network".  It collects it's data in a database so you can write queries against it.

The price is right... it's Free!

I have been using spiceworks http://www.spiceworks.com/ and its a great inventory tool you can break it down by segments if you need let say query range 1-50 then 51-100 to avoid network congestion .
but i took a look at http://www.issuetrak.com/html/asset.html i never got a chance to try it but its on my to do list the software seems to do what you are looking for

ASKER

Thank you experts for your recommendations.

It is now compulsory to me that no agent can be installed in client PC's. Which solutions do you know that need no agent installed?

If there is no agent, does that mean that the software will collect less information?

Thanks
